The Sims 4 New Year New Hustle: How to Complete the New Year 2022 Storyline

How to complete the New Year New Hustle storyline in The Sims 4? Since Scenarios launched in The Sims 4 late last year, we’ve seen a mix of permanent and time-limited challenges added to the game. New Year New Hustle is the fourth time-limited challenge launched and , appropriately, will be available to begin between January 10 and February 2, 2022.

How to start the New Year New Hustle storyline in The Sims 4?

To start playing New Year New Hustle (or any scenario available in The Sims 4), you must choose New scenario from the game’s main menu. You will then be prompted to select the scenario you wish to play, and finally prompted to choose to start the scenario in an existing save or create a new save file to play in.

After making your choices, you will be taken to Create-A-Sim to create the scenario household. In order to fulfill the scenario requirements, this household will need to consist of a single young adult Sim or more (you can add more characters to the household later if you wish, by creating them separately and then merging them with the household challenge in Manage Worlds). Once you complete the CAS, you can move into your household and begin the challenge.

How to complete the New Year New Hustle storyline in The Sims 4?

New Year New Hustle has two win conditions, but it’s worth noting that like all Sims 4 scenarios, you only need to complete one of them to win the challenge. There’s also no time limit, other than requiring you to start the storyline by February 2. Once you’ve created your household and saved your game, you can take as much time as you want in-game and in real-time to complete these goals.

This scenario is complete when your Sim:

  • Has §25,000 in his household funds and reached level 5 in any skill; Where
  • Reached level 3 of any career.

How to earn money and reach level 5 of a skill

While the New Year New Hustle storyline isn’t particularly difficult for experienced Sims 4 players, the first victory condition is just a bit trickier, requiring you to track a few different metrics to succeed.

First, you have to think about the money. Since your storyline household is made up of a single adult Sim, their starting funds will be §20,000. However, you will have to spend some of it on housing, so you will start a little further from your goal of 25,000 than you think. If you have City Living or Eco Lifestyle installed, my advice would be to rent an apartment rather than buy a house at the start of this challenge. Even the cheapest house in The Sims 4 will cost you more than half of your starting funds, while many apartments can be purchased for a relatively small deposit amount. This way you will start closer to your goal.

Other money-saving tricks include eating quick meals from the fridge (most of which don’t incur additional ingredient costs) and using skill-building items on community lots if the your Sim’s house is unfurnished with them, instead of buying your own. There’s actually a bit of overlap here with the Making Money storyline, so take a look at our guide to pinching pennies until you’ve reached your savings goal in The Sims 4.

Next, it’s time to think about your Sim’s skills. Not all skills in The Sims 4 were created equal, but all adult skills reach at least level 5, so choose the right one for your Sim. Just keep in mind that some skills work better with certain personality traits: for example, creative Sims learn skills like painting, writing, and music at a faster rate; while Genius Sims get the same bonus for science pursuits ranging from programming and rocket science to fishing and gardening. There are many ways personality and skills can interact, so check out our The Sims 4 skills list to see which moods favor which skills.

Once you’ve chosen your skill, have your Sim spend as much time as possible on activities that help develop that skill. Activities relevant to each skill can also be found in the skill list linked above. Many skills can also be set to your Sim’s hobby by selecting their likes and dislikes in Create-A-Sim. This won’t directly increase skill development speed, but will ensure that your Sim is having fun whenever they develop a skill they enjoy, effectively giving you one less worry while you continue their hustle.

If you’ve decided to specifically pursue this win condition, I’d also recommend that you find your Sim a job as a freelancer and reach level 5 in their Employment Agency’s targeted skill. Freelance gigs tend to have a generous payout compared to a traditional workday, helping you reach 25,000 funds faster; and, since you’re actively controlling your Sim while they complete a gig, they’ll develop their skills as they work. There are also no numbered levels of advancement like in other careers, so you won’t accidentally trigger the second victory condition.

How to reach level 3 of a career

For veteran Sims 4 players, this second condition will likely be extremely easy. However, if you’re new to The Sims 4 and looking for a storyline that lets you get to grips with some of the game’s core mechanics, this is a great choice.

To launch your Sim into a career, click on their phone icon in the lower left corner of the screen. Go to the Careers tab and select To find a job. A context menu will give you the choice of all the career options in your game, including those expansions and add-ons you own.

Every job in The Sims 4 has at least three tiers, so pick the one you like. The only one I would recommend avoiding is the Freelancer career, as it doesn’t have traditional levels and therefore won’t help fulfill this win condition.

Climbing the top rung of any career ladder in The Sims 4 is mostly about meeting your promotion requirements and completing your daily tasks – both of which can be tracked in the Career panel in the lower right corner of the screen – then show up for work on time in a good mood. As long as you can do this every day your Sim is supposed to work, they’ll likely hit level 3 in about a week of play.

Maintain your Sim’s mood by managing their needs (i.e. hunger, energy) so they are in the green range when they go to work. Needs in The Sims 4 don’t go down very quickly, so it’s usually not too hard to get them under control, especially in a single Sim household, just by keeping an eye on the Needs panel. My only major advice here is that if you’re in a house or apartment with a cheap bed, make sure you get your Sim to sleep early so they’re well rested in time for work.

Do you need add-ons to play New Year New Hustle?

Although the general theme of this scenario is New Year’s Resolutions, you do not need to have the Seasons Expansion Pack installed (or any other add-on content) to participate in the New Year New Hustle scenario. Indeed, engaging with the actual resolution mechanism of said pack is not a requirement of this scenario. You can start New Year New Hustle at any time on the game’s schedule, and while having your Sim make a New Year’s Eve resolution can be complementary to this challenge, they don’t directly interact with each other.
