The Sims 4 Latest Update Gives Your Neighbors A New Dose Of Independence – GameSpew
Life-sim The Sims 4 has a new update that, provided you don’t turn it off, will make your neighbors’ lives a little more interesting.
Neighborhood stories can sound like a The Sims 4 spin-off, but it’s a new feature that was added to the game in November. This gave Sims, those you don’t control, the ability to change their lives, such as changing careers or having a baby.
Sounds like a cool feature, but the problem was that NPCs would always call you asking to approve their proposed life change, which is more than a little needy. The latest update changes the Neighborhood Stories feature so your neighbors can implement these changes themselves.
So NPCs who, despite the name of this feature, don’t have to live next to you, could have a child, adopt a pet, etc. However, they could also die on the job, so you might suddenly find that the Sim you invited for coffee and cake won’t be around anymore.
Yes, you can tweak the settings to your liking, dictating exactly how much battery life each household has, but that feels more like cheating. If you want your non-player Sims to be truly independent, you have to live with the possibility of them losing their minds in a tragic clothespin factory accident.
The update is available now on PC and console.
