A Tuckasegee man who twice used knives to slit the necks of two men in separate incidents is heading to jail, District Attorney Ashley Welch said.

David Ray “Q-Tip” Sims, 46, pleaded guilty last week in Jackson County Superior Court to two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill, causing grievous bodily harm.

Superior Court Judge Daniel Kuehnert sentenced Sims to 96 to 128 months in the Adult Corrections Division.

Both assaults took place in the community of Tuckasegee, one on April 15, 2021 and the other on October 20, 2019.

The most recent incident happened on Crane Road. A man arrived home to find Sims at his home, where due to an earlier theft he had been ordered not to be.

The victim repeatedly told the Sims to leave. The Sims wouldn’t. Just as the victim and another person were about to call law enforcement, Sims attacked the victim, slicing him with a knife on the left side of his neck, leaving a gash over 4 inches in length. .

An emergency doctor told law enforcement that the victim “was very lucky not to have been fatally injured as the cut barely missed severing a major artery, by a few millimeters,” according to the report. incident.

On October 20, 2019, Sims visited the Los Garcia Tienda store in Tuckasegee, where Sims accused an individual of stealing his bike. Again, Sims grabbed his knife. He stabbed the victim, who recoiled. The man suffered a laceration of approximately 1 inch.
