Sims 4 – how fashion plays a key role in the high school years

The Sims 4 returns to school with its next full expansion, but there’s more to High school years than to study.

Fashion is one such component that plays a huge role in the teenage Sims experience, and the developers have teamed up with Depop, an incredibly popular fashion marketplace app with Gen Z shoppers, to enable Sims to explore their sense of style and set trends.

“One of the pillars of the pack is identity expression,” said Jessica Croft, Senior Game Designer. digital spy. “Being a teenager is about discovering who you are and how you could show it to the world. Fashion is a key vehicle for this exploration and expression of identity for Gen Z.”

In that regard, Depop was a natural fit to work with to get the most out of the concept and ideas.

“Given Depop’s huge Gen Z user base and our focus on fashion as a core part of High school yearsthe collaboration made a lot of sense,” Croft explained. “We also share certain core values with Depop, in particular the belief in sustainable circular fashion ecosystems and the upliftment of individual designers.

“Being able to work directly with Gen Z Depop creators gives the pack a lot of authenticity.”

Five Depop salespeople, including Selena and Jeremy, have helped design clothes that Simmers can check out at ThrifTea, Copperdale’s thrift and bubble tea shop. Sims can put together outfits and then sell them on the in-game Trendi app.

“There is no shortage of talent within the Depop community, so it was important to us that the five vendors we worked with had distinct aesthetic perspectives, represented our global community, and could confidently condense their style. into a handful of designs,” said Depop brand manager Steve Dool.

“You can see each of their sensibilities shine through, drawing inspiration from quirky designs, vintage Y2K and 70s clothing, and spray-painted artwork that mirrors the custom pieces they sell in their Depop stores. current.”

The pack’s lead producer, George Pigula, has confirmed that outfits can be sold through Trendi to Sims living in the world, meaning NPC characters could wear anything you put together.

This isn’t the first time the hugely popular life-sim game has collaborated with others when it comes to fashion. For example, a large number of Kits have seen partnerships with Jazzy Cho, Shruti Sitara Singh, Pabllo Vittar, Paola Locatelli and Stefan Cooke.

“Create-a-Sim is a place where you can spend hours and hours creating unique looks, and even experimenting with styles you might want to try yourself,” Croft said. “With this in mind, collaborations with big names in fashion make a lot of sense.”

Finding out who you are isn’t just about fashion, either. This month’s free base game update, coinciding with this expansion, not only adds sexual orientation (including the ability to create asexual and aromantic Sims), but also allows Sims to explore romantically, which means their sexual orientation may change over the course of the game.

Making friends, finding love, and joining clubs, plus the addition of ThrifTea and a large theme park in Copperdale, make the high school experience an experience beyond classes, studies, and Exams.

And it all helps High school years to distinguish oneself from Discover the universitya 2019 expansion that also focuses on an important part of a person’s education.

“There have certainly been valuable lessons learned from Discover the university“, Croft said. “We wanted High school years feel radically different, although both are related to education. One way to look at it is that the high school experience is the backbone of the pack – while the drama, discovery and excitement of being a teenager is the soul of the pack.”

The Sims 4: High School Years will launch on PC, Mac, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on Thursday, July 28.
