Latest Sims 4 Update Finally Lets You Choose Your Sims’ Pronouns

The latest update for The Sims 4 is one that many of us have been waiting for, albeit too long. Since May 25, players of EA and Maxis‘ simulation game will be able to customize the pronouns of their Sims.

Players will be able to assign various pronouns to their Sims or create their own custom pronouns, without having to install any mods. This can all be done from the “Create a Sim” page, and pronouns can be selected by editing your Sims name and clicking on the pronouns just to the right – as shown above and below.

EA has also added some example phrases for pronoun usage, to help players determine which pronouns are right for their Sim. Additionally, The Sims 4 players will also be able to change their Sims’ pronouns whenever they see fit.

This update was first announced in January 2022 and has finally come to fruition thanks to GLAAD and the It Gets Better project. While we’ve been able to decide if our Sims are male or female, we’ve always been confined to he/him/her pronouns in-game. Naturally, this is frustrating for many players, but now The Sims 4 will use pronouns personalized where they can.

It’s certainly a welcome step forward for The Sims 4, making the title more inclusive and accessible for its players. However, EA has warned that the update may not be perfect and will continue to improve in-game pronoun usage. Issues with pronoun updates may include grammatical errors in the text of the Game.

Also, the pronoun update is only available in English at this time. EA has also announced that they will be adding more language options, but we’ll have to wait a bit longer for those to roll out.

Either way, it’s nice to see EA finally taking this step to make The Sims 4 more accessible, and it certainly sets us up for the kits to come! On May 26, Little Campers and Moonlight Chic will also be released, allowing you to spend a Parisian-inspired evening on the town or have movie night in your backyard.
