Lady Big Red McKynna Sims will stay home next season and play basketball for Muskegon Community College

MUSKEGON—Muskegon senior McKynna Sims recently signed her National Letter of Intent to pursue her basketball career at Muskegon Community College for the Lady Jayhawks.

Sims started three years for Muskegon coach Paris Thomas and the Lady Reds from 2019 to 2022. During her senior season, she averaged 5.4 points, 2.6 assists and 2.2 steals per game.

Thomas praised The Sims.

“She is a resilient young woman,” said Thomas. “She loves the game…a fierce competitor. She’s a really tough kid. We are really happy with his journey.

She has gone through many tribulations and many tests along her journey. said Thomas. The Sims lost loved ones who were unable to see her throughout her journey.

I’m thrilled to see this kid take it to the next level and having the chance to play basketball is a blessing,” Thomas said. “It is truly a blessing as she will get the chance to wear the gold and yellow (MCC school colors).”

Thomas said when Sims is on her game, she’s hard to stop.

We are proud of McKynna and she will be a great leader one day and she will go to MCC and do great things,” Thomas said.

I know how special this moment is for McKynna and her family,” Jayhawks women’s coach Jason Cooper said. I am so excited to have McKynna in our family. I am honored to take this journey with McKynna and walk this path with her.

Sims will specialize in criminal justice. McKynna is the daughter of Jamie Smith and Marcellus Sims.
