How to build an underwater house

The Sims 4 is a king among social simulation games. It allows players to create Sims and build many types of constructions, from mansions to cottages and everything in between. Many Simmers have taken the opportunity to let their imaginations run wild in their building. Some have chosen to build their dream home, while others have given it a unique twist.

The Sims 4 allowed players to create wildly unrealistic and fantastical builds. The main idea in building a underwater house would be to completely submerge the construction in water. For this type of home, appropriate decorations will further amplify this submerged atmosphere. Here’s what Simmers need to do to create their very own underwater home.

The first step is to choose an appropriately sized lot. This may seem like an obvious step, but it will play a huge role later in the build.

Simmers must determine the size they wish to create and choose a bundle from the 19 available worlds (including all DLC worlds). However, they should bear in mind that three of the 19 Worlds are considered vacations and not long term. These worlds are:

  • Granite Falls (Outdoor Retreat Game Pack)
  • Selvadorada (Jungle Adventure Game Pack)
  • Batuu (Journey to Batuu Game Pack)

cheats are activated after typing them in the cheat box

Once the player has chosen and purchased a bundle, the next step is to open the Cheat console. This is done differently on different platforms:

  • PC: Ctrl+Shift+C
  • Mac: Command+Shift+C
  • Bracket: R1+R2+L1+L2
  • Xbox One: the four shoulder buttons

Then type Test cheats True Where The tests deceive, and cheats will be enabled. Then the players must write bb.moveobjects. Players can do this by simply pressing Other (PC) Where Options/⌥ (Mac). Now players can place items without grid limitation. Additionally, this cheat allows players to stack items on top of each other and place them anywhere. This step will contribute to the decoration of the Lot.

creating a pool in construction mode

Once the house is fashioned, the Simmers must surround the remaining exposed space with a swimming pool using the pool tool in build mode. When doing so, remember to leave a clear path for Sims to access the house.

Decorate an underwater house

After removing the floor, it is advisable to use stairs instead of ladders for more pleasing visuals. Creating a platform similar to the shape of the house on top of it will also give the building more dimension and give it a realistic look.

Now all that remains is to scatter things around, creating the illusion of being overwhelmed. Obviously, rocks are indispensable in any underwater construction. Unfortunately, the rocks that exist in The Sims 4 are all small in size, so it can take hours to decorate the pool.

Luckily, the cheat that players typed before can be used in this scenario. First, choose a stone from the Category Outdoor Plants. Then press Shift + ] to enlarge the rock, or Shift + [ to reduce the size of the item. These buttons can be pressed multiple times until the desired size is achieved. Once again, this cheat works differently depending on the platform:

  • Console: hold L2 + R2 and press up or down on the D-pad.
  • Xbox: hold LT + RT and press up or down on the D-pad.

Additionally, if a rock or plant needs to be moved along a vertical axis, players can press the 0 key to move the item down while the 9 key will raise it.

Tips and Tricks for Better Underwater House Building in The Sims 4

creating a pool using the custom pool tool

If the Simmers decide to build the house first and then surround it with water, they may run into trouble. For example, if the construction has odd angles and is asymmetrical, some triangle shaped gaps will be left exposed when using the Pool tool. A simple solution would be to use the Custom Pool Tool, as it is more accurate when marking the desired areas.

Another problem that may arise is locating the house from the top floor to build the pool. All builders need to do is go to the ground floor by tapping the arrow in the top right of the screen, then select a room. Using the same method, go up to the top floor and tap on the yellow perimeter of the selected room to remove the floor. Repeat this step until the whole house is exposed, then start building the pool. When everything is done, you just have to select the room again and rebuild the ceiling.

by typing DEBUG in the search field

As for decorations, if players are having trouble using the available rocks, there is an alternative. In the Cheat Console, type these two cheats:

  • bb.showhiddenobjects
  • bb.showliveeditobjects

These cheats will reveal all items that are used in The Sims 4, including ones that players can only access if it’s a public space like a restaurant or a jungle. To see these hidden objects, players must type the word DEBUG in the Search bar in the lower left corner.

A quick way to make searching easier is to choose the Jungle Adventure and the living on the island options of the Filter articles in the lower right corner. Players can find lots of exotic beach and jungle-related elements such as hanging branches and coral reefs, which will help make the construction more realistic. Plants of Get to work, Like Alien Mushroom 2a4b and alien flowerare also great options for an underwater build.

The Sims 4 is now available for PC, PS4, PS5 and Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S.
