It’s time to admit you’re curious about The Sims game. You’ve probably heard of it, or maybe not. Either way, here are five reasons why you should play the game.

First, a little background. The Sims is a single-player social simulation video game, first released in 2001. Since then, there have been a total of four generations of the game. The most recent, and the one I play, is The Sims 4 To play, you create a Sim and then do whatever you want. There is no clear objective in the game. The game promotes exploration, giving the player dozens of different choices of what to do. The game comes with several built-in characters and worlds to interact with. You control your Sim’s educational background, life aspirations, career path, and social life. The only way the game ends is when all of your Sims die, but that’s easily avoidable if you’re starting a family and having kids. You can also restart the game, creating an entirely new character. The possibilities are truly endless.

Reason #1: The base game is now free! As of October 18, 2022, the base game is now free to download. So if cost was the reason you didn’t want to download, that barrier has been removed. Now that it’s free, it’s definitely worth a try. If you don’t like it, there is no monetary loss, so download it already!

Reason #2: Expansion Packs: Developers are constantly coming up with new ways to expand the game. This makes it an ever-evolving platform. If you’re bored, you can always buy an expansion pack that opens up new careers, new worlds, new interactions, and new clothes to play with. One of the favorites includes the Sims City Living pack where you can enjoy apartment living, global cuisine, museums, and the chance to perfect the art of karaoke. Another favorite of mine is Sims Island Living, where you can explore a beautiful island world, have the opportunity to work as an environmentalist, and even become a mermaid if that’s something you fancy. All this to say that the game truly has something for everyone.

Reason #3: multifaceted gameplay: The game can be played in so many different ways. You could spend hours designing a Sim and playing around with different aesthetics and modes. You can also spend hours designing in build mode. Some people don’t actually play the game but just spend time working on architecture or interior design (for which there is an expansion pack). You can also play the game by following the various career paths and aspirations that the game has incorporated. The game recently added a feature called “Scenarios” where they have created various objective-driven stories to play in the game where every choice you make has an impact. the result. One scenario is called “make money” where you start with zero simoleons (Sim money) and have to become a millionaire. There’s no one right way to do this, so it’s a fun way to creatively solve problems. Plus, Sims have so many different ways to earn money, including a career path as a criminal. You can also sell goods such as paintings, books, or even local products that your Sim produces. However, the quality of each item depends on their skill level, so make sure your Sim takes the time to practice their skills (or you could always cheat).

Reason #4: A game intended to cheat: The Sims is a platform that literally encourages cheating. There are so many fun cheats that improve your game. For example, you can change the build mode elements to make them smaller or larger, which gives you more design options. You can also cheat it in order to have thousands of simoleons added to your Sim’s bank account opening opportunities for your Sim to live a lavish life. Sims require you to take care of their basic needs (sleep, food, hygiene, fun, etc.) if you are busy trying to achieve certain goals, you can also cheat your Sim’s need levels to be satiated . Using cheat codes is completely optional and available if you just want to try something new.

Reason #5: creative outlet for a creative community: The Sims has a huge community of players who have added their own touch to the game. From people who design custom content (clothing or player-created items that are uploaded into the game) to people who run challenges, it happens always something new. Examples of challenges include one called “Not So Berry Challenge” where you play through ten generations of a family in The Sims where each generation is a different color. People are having fun designing monochromatic outfits and houses for their Sims. Each generation has a unique aspiration and career to pursue. There is also a community of influencers/streamers who design or participate in challenges and publish their content on various platforms. One of my personal favorites is Kelsey Dangerous. She is a YouTuber and Twitch streamer who previously worked at Buzzfeed but now works independently.

So if you’re looking for another creative outlet where you can craft an endless amount of characters and explore various careers and worlds, you should definitely give The Sims a shot. Especially now that the game is free!
