Democrat Aaron Sims Files for State Senate District 16 | Carson City Nevada News

Today, Democratic candidate Aaron Sims officially filed his candidacy for State Senate District 16 in this year’s election. He filed this morning at 10:00 a.m. at the Nevada Secretary of State’s office in Carson City.

Sims, a resident of Carson City for 12 years, has had a diverse history in politics and community activism. Beginning his youth involvement, he worked on various campaigns, from president to city supervisor, intern for a governor, worked as a lobbyist and vice president of a major local political party. Over the past few years, Mr. Sims has worked to improve the lives of homeless people in our area and to push for reforms regarding the housing crisis which worsens every year. A former candidate for mayor of Carson City in 2020, Sims looks forward to bringing both his experience and a new vision for Nevada to the state Senate.

As a senator, Mr. Sims plans to champion housing first, education reform and health care for Nevada as his top 3 policy issues. He is also a supporter of alternatives to renewable energy, including nuclear power, criminal justice reform, equal rights and LGBTQ rights, and prioritizing mental health in the state.

Joined by his partner Spencer, Mr Sims said that; “It is our responsibility to take a stand and fight for workers, to fight for those who feel voiceless and to bring about change that will point our communities in the right direction. This is why I am in this fight”.

Sims plans to campaign in Nevada’s 16th District, which includes Carson City, Wahoe Valley, South Reno, Storey County, Incline Village and Verdi.
